We wanted to start a small 2-fish aquarium. We have had no previous experience and needed some advice. None was given to us by the staff. All we knew (from Google) was that we have to set up the tank first and allow water to settle for about 4 days. We got everything set up and ready for our fish (the tank with nice gravel, plants, filters and water pump, lights etc). We went to Dr Doolittle Pet Shop in Streatham Hill. We picked two fishes we liked (common sense was to pick 2 fishes from the same tank to avoid any problems). None of the staff dealing with us told us what kind of fishes we have chosen or how to take care of them. We wanted to buy a thermometer and we were told that we do not need it for that kind of fishes. What kind exactly no one told us, we only knew these are cold water fishes. We didn’t even know their gender.

We went straight home (we live about 10 minutes away from the shop) and let our new friends into the tank. We knew we have to place the whole bag in the tank and allow some tank water into it and wait about 15 minutes before letting the fishes out (once again thanks to Google). One of our little friends wasn’t very happy. It didn’t want to swim around and will just stay at the bottom of the tank, which was very worrying as the other fish was very lively. 3 days after we bought them one of them died. It must have been sick before we got it.

The staff of Dr Doolittle Pet Shop was very unhelpful and did not share any knowledge with us even though we told them we are new to this. All we were told is to feed our fishes twice a day 3 pieces of dry food each. And that was it. We felt like they just wanted us to pay and leave. We are really disappointed.

The shop in itself sells a lot of cool and fun toys and food for our pets. They have a big range of cages for small and a little bigger animals. They also sell good brands of various food and snacks. The cages/aquarium used for the hamsters they sell is small and their drinking water is too high up (although they manage to reach it by stretching themselves...!)

The staff's customer services is terribly bad and they have a lack of interest in their jobs. The lady has a fake smile that it is obvious that she just wants you to pay and go. The gentleman is rude and grumpy. None of them are helpful and really don't seem to know what they are selling in the shop or even to give any advices (one has no clue what so ever and the other one just seems generally annoyed and angry with the world for whatever reason that it shows it in his attitude) what a shame to have such a bad service when customers are genially polite with them, asking for advice and simply happy to look after their pets by treating them nicely; We were hoping to get a better service but: no luck! Well, we will surely continue to treat our lovely but definitely not by buying anything from this shop anymore!
